A 35th Wedding Anniversary

I'm so happy to be able to say that I've had parents who have displayed a pretty close to perfect example of what marriage should be like. After meeting and falling in love in their teens, my parents married at 21 and have continued to grow old together ever since. 35 years later they are still saying, "I Do". What an honour it's been for Gaz and I to have learnt so much about marriage from them and an even greater honour to celebrate their 35th Wedding Anniversary with them a few weeks ago. The family decided to put on a celebratory champagne breakfast for the occasion and it was my job to make it look as beautiful as possible. I decided to go with a Romantic Vintage Theme by using lace, burlap, vintage items like old typewriters and old cameras and lots of roses (my moms favourite flower). Personal touches in the decor, like old family photos, scrabble letters (a game they are very fond of) and buntings made from photocopies of old love letters made faded memories come back to life.

Despite the wind- the morning was joyfully spent in the company of an amazing family (if I say so myself)... here are some pictures which captured the event...

Make Your Own Cake Bunting

Many of you may have seen the cute cake bunting I used for the cake at my Easter Candy Table  (see post here). Well here's how you can make your own.

What you'll need:
Scrapbooking Paper/Coloured Paper
String or Bakers Twine
Pritt
Super Glue
2 Tooth Picks
2 Party straws
Scissors
Ruler

Method:
1. Fold a piece of scapbooking paper in half. You wont need the whole sheet. I suggest only working with 1/3 of the sheet.
2. With the fold at the top draw a triangle in the size you wish your bunting flags to be- I made my triangles 2cm in width and about 1.5cm in length.
3. Cut the shape out to form a double-sided triangle or BUNTING FLAG :)
4. Secure each mini flag onto a piece of string/bakers twine using pritt glue.
5. Stick a flag onto each toothpick.
6. Secure each end of the bunting flag line to a tooth pick using superglue
7. Stick each tooth pick into a straw and secure it with superglue.
8. Shove your cute bunting into a cake and VIOLA- "Gourmet Looking Cake" in an instant! :)

Easter Candy Table

Easter spells out beauty, the rare beauty of new life.  ~S.D. Gordon

I love this quote. I wonder if the author was referring to Spring or if he/she was referring to a deeper, more spiritual meaning? For those of you in the Northern Hemisphere- Easter is celebrated in the springtime so yes, Easter IS about vibrant new life, new blossoms & new growth. But for me, Easter, is also about the new life that God has so freely given to us and so the day is about SO MUCH MORE than just chocolate and candy. I am however, very grateful that chocolate and candy have somehow been thrown into the equation! I will never say no to a candy coated egg or two (those are my favourite). So that's why my mom and I decided to put on an Easter Candy Buffet for our family this year. Take a look at the pics below- one of my favourite things was the "Egg Nest Ice Creams" we put together. Perhaps you will get some inspiration for next year or maybe even for your next themed event. Oh, and Happy Easter- may it be filled with baskets full of blessings for you and your family!

A Way With Watermelon

Everythings is better when it's in the shape of a heart. This is true. That's why you should try this cute little trick- use a heart shaped cookie cutter to shape your watermelon into little bites of love! Haha, yes, that sounds lame, but really... it's SO much easier to eat and it's a simple yet beautiful way to present the fruit. You can also put the hearts onto ice cream sticks and BOOM, in a second you'll have cute Watermelon Pops! Let this be the inspiration for your next watermelon recipe and spread the love :)
